#1139 new enhancement

Remember locale selection

Description

We should remember the locale selection a person has made on translate.wordpress.org and take them directly to the list of projects for that locale. If they manually navigate back "up" using the breadcrumbs, they can change their locale.

  • Priority changed from low to high

If I enter my locales "waiting" strings section and wanting to return to the "waiting" tab of my locale after translating strings is not currently possible without typing the URL or reopening via a bookmark/favourite which is slow and cumbersome to say the least.

Repro

  1. Open https://translate.wordpress.org/locale/en-au/default/waiting
  2. Approve some strings for a project in the waiting tab e.g https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/wp-plugins/delete-duplicate-posts/stable/en-au/default

Results:
On the page https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/wp-plugins/delete-duplicate-posts/stable/en-au/default there is no link to return to https://translate.wordpress.org/locale/en-au/

Expected:

A link allowing me to return to https://translate.wordpress.org/locale/en-au

I agree with @netweb, the structure of breadcrumbs is changing when "enter" in a GlotPress project page, and it shouldn't.
The breadcrumbs up to the project page are based on locale, like in this page:
https://translate.wordpress.org/locale/ro/default/wp/dev - "Locales / Romanian / WordPress / Development (4.5.x)"
but when entering a project as here:
https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/wp/dev/ro/default - the breadcrumbs are "Projects / WordPress/ Development (4.5.x) / Romanian"
instead of
"Locales / Romanian / WordPress / Development (4.5.x) / Development".

The only way to go back is via browser's Back (history) command.

Was going to report the same thing.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Go to https://translate.wordpress.org/.
  2. Select Russian or any other locale: https://translate.wordpress.org/locale/ru
  3. Select WordPress, 4.5.x: https://translate.wordpress.org/locale/ru/default/wp/dev
  4. The breadcrumbs are: Locales / Russian / WordPress / Development (4.5.x)
  5. Select a subproject: https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/wp/dev/ru/default
  6. The breadcrumbs are: Projects / WordPress / Development (4.5.x) / Russian

At this point, there are no links to go back to step 2 and select a different project in the same locale.

I understand why different views have different breadcrumbs, but it's confusing from the UI/UX standpoint, as the purpose of breadcrumbs is providing consistent navigation.

In addition to comment:5, on pages like https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/wp/dev/ru/default/, breadcrumbs look like this: Projects / WordPress / 5.6.x - Development / Russian.

If you go to the Projects page from there, you'll see this menu:

  • Apps
  • bbPress
  • BuddyPress
  • Disabled Projects
  • GlotPress
  • Meta
  • Plugins
  • Themes
  • Waiting
  • WordPress

Some of these links work as expected, but if you select Plugins or Themes, they both unexpectedly redirect to the root page instead: https://translate.wordpress.org/ and force you to choose a locale first.
