Description
Migrating from #wp21293:
First discussed here:
http://bbpress.org/forums/topic/bbpress-content-re-organization/#post-114999
The bbPress 2 plugin is now quite mature and gaining traction. There are some outstanding sites using bbPress 2 well worth showcasing already, such as devpress.com/forums. It's high time the WordPress showcase site received a "bbPress" flavor to accommodate great looking forum sites.
Personally, I think we shouldn't do this for wordpress.org and instead bbpress.org should have its own showcase. What do people think?

Who's comment is this?
This was mine, sorry. What does @JJJ think?
Hehehe... I haven't asked @JJJ either, though any bb's promotion is good promotion :)
We do have our own showcase here http://bbpress.org/about/examples/ (which needs updating)
I think that a flavor on WP's showcase for a handful of exceptional examples of bbPress would be nice...

We're going to be open sourcing our Showcase theme in the not-too-distant future. Might be worth just stealing that for bbpress.org (and buddypress.org!)

I'd actually lean toward removing the BuddyPress flavor on the Showcase instead. Those are just WordPress sites with a plugin installed. It happens to be a plugin we like and use (and is part of our infrastructure), but it's still just a WordPress site. On the other hand, if both bbPress and BuddyPress had their own showcases, we could easily link to them in the Showcase.

Ok, along with various other bits and pieces this probably makes the most sense.
I am pretty sure we are going to move wordpress.com BuddyPress & bbPress dev blogs to new sites on buddypress.org and bbpress.org respectively. Going to take a peak at the devhub for both also (bbPress devhub test)

It's all about deciding what to integrate, and what to separate. The bb's have historically been kept at arms length everywhere on WordPress.org, with links in the footer only being added as recently as 2012. The fact that there is a BuddyPress section in the WordPress.org showcase is an anomaly. I don't recall exactly who pushed for that being there, but BuddyPress.org originally had it's own showcase which we retired, as manually maintaining it was cumbersome (sites would shift around their designs or CMS's, etc...)
My opinion is to keep BuddyPress where it is, and add a bbPress section. The greater part of the past few years have been spent improving integration of the bb's into the overall WordPress experience, and I think it's helped all of the projects equally (though the bb's benefit more in other obvious ways.) An example of this is having BuddyPress and bbPress plugins and themes available through WordPress.org rather than via their own repositories, but because those repositories have an API, those results can be made available natively on BuddyPress.org and bbPress.org.
The WordPress way to solve the showcase dilemma is for the Showcase to have an API similar to plugins and themes -- 1 central repository for showcasing all kinds of WordPress sites that plugin & theme authors can use on their own sites rather than opting into launching and maintaining their own.

I think it's great if BuddyPress & bbpress have their own showcases, but I think the overhead in maintaining 3 separate showcases is not something super sustainable, at least in the short term (seeking out, adding, vetting submissions, checking they still run WP, keeping design looking fresh, screenshots, etc.) and probably isn't necessary given the volume of great sites who are using them (not enough :() - we can add/maintain both as flavors on the .org showcase.
Also, seeing something on the WordPress.org Showcase I think further legitimizes it vs. seeing it on the BP or bbP sites - they just don't have the traffic the .org site has.
I guess the real question is, do we want to give so much recognition / visibility to what is essentially a plugin? If so, they definitely belong in the .org Showcase.

"Flavor" is nothing more special than a post-category.
So, I added a post category for bbPress to Showcases. It won't show until some showcase posts with that category exist.
Note: BuddyPress has its own flavor icon for use in the flavor list. See here for example, below the Rating area:
https://wordpress.org/showcase/independent-fashion-bloggers/
If you want one for bbPress, I'll need the icon files.
https://wordpress.org/showcase/wp-content/themes/showcase/images/flavor-bp.png
https://wordpress.org/showcase/wp-content/themes/showcase/images/flavor-bp2.png
If you have a couple icon, I can put them into the theme and make the appropriate code changes. Same size/style as the above ones, plz.
Hi-DPI icons will also be acceptable if you want to double the sizes in both directions. (32x34).
There is also a logo image here, which is similar but different for reasons I won't even try to understand:
https://wordpress.org/wp-content/themes/showcase/images/bp-logo-16.png
It's used in the "Browse by Flavor" listing. Bottom left sidebar.
Same deal, give me relevant icons, I'll make the changes to adapt.
The entire theme will go into meta.svn soon. Related: #92

Didn't mean to close that.
I'll need the icons before it will show in the Flavor list on the right, or alternately confirmation that I should just show the normal W icon there. That will require a theme change either way.
The bottom left sidebar should start showing the bbPress flavor as soon as a showcase post gets that flavor.

Thanks Otto, How about some dashicons?
bbPress Logo: content: "\f477";
BuddyPress Logo: content: "\f448";
WordPress Logo: content: "\f120";
If not, @JJJ, any ~16x16px bbPress logos lurking somewhere?

Dashicons might be a better way to go, but they don't have that same circle around them. I'm okay with a minor look change if that's the way we want to go.

The BuddyPress and bbPress circles are taken straight from the literal vector art. They should be the same, but bbPress appears slightly thicker and WordPress has a double-width outline (maybe to help with smaller usages?)
I'm fine using these, though. They should serve as our canonical logo representations as they come bundled with WordPress core.
Who's comment is this? I don't think it is by @Sadr as wish for xyz feature immediately followed by do not wish for xyz feature pretty much makes the ticket null & void :/ Was this added when the ticket was migrated?
Anyways I am +1 for this as BuddyPress has some love and it would be awesome to give bbPress the same exposure :)
