#135 closed enhancement (fixed)

Plugin screenshots should be linked whether they're in an assets/ directory or not

Description

Migrated from #wp23410:

Plugins screenshots have differing behaviour whether stored in /assets or /tags/xxxx folders in plugin SVN repository.

  • /tags/xxxx => scaled images with links to source images
  • /assets => scaled images without links

Also, when loading a plugin for the first time recently, the screenshots didn't appear until after I added them to the /assets folder. I suspect something has changed there, as I had read that screenshots should fallback to stable tag/trunk folder.

+1 for this one, especially when a full-screen screenshot has been placed, it's not helpful for users and not clear what's going on (therefore the plugin could be easily ignored).

Adding to the +1 here, not sure if this should remain a low priority, maybe normal as it would be of great benefit to the user to be able to see what they are actually getting when looking for a plugin.

Proper handling of screenshots in the assets folder would hopefully make more developers go over to using it, removing needless added size on plugin downloads because of screenshots being bundled.

Fixed, however, the change will not appear for any particular plugin until they do an update. The HTML for displaying those screenshots is built and stored during the build process that happens at the time of an svn commit. So it will have those links correctly built for any future commits.
