Allow users to filter out themes that upsell or have features locked

Description

As a user, it's very frustrating to search for themes in the directory, find one that you like, and then discover that many of the features are locked.

For example:

Searching for an appropriate theme for your website is a time-consuming task. If you're looking for a free theme, the you're looking for a free theme. A user finds a theme they like, installs it and discovers that they need to pay: this wastes the user's time. It undermines their confidence in the theme directory as a free theme repository as opposed to a freemium repository made for upselling.

Having a filter like 'Exclude themes with pro versions' would at least allow users to get around this.

I would see this more as a flagging system thing, so if a user consider that a particular theme is trying to much to upsell it should be able to flag it.

Excluding all themes who are doing an upsell is not really making sense, since a theme where 2-3 optional things are in a pro version might be much better than a theme that has no pro version.

Also what about people who try to upsell plugins, customization work, support or collect emails ? Is quite rare to see a totally free, pro-bono and great product.

The issue looks complex, so leaving a way for users to give feedback is the best option from my point of view.

Overall I agree with the original request here - having the ability to filter to "100% free themes with no upsells" would be great - for both the Theme directory and the Plugin Directory.

Unfortunately, as noted, I suspect that a large segment of themes are upsells in some form, which would diminish the actual usefulness of this.

Effort is probably better spent on allowing authors to add more complete information about their theme to the page instead - #215 #969

I'm going to close this as maybelater as it's something we'll be able to look at in a future iteration of the directory, but now isn't that time.
