Description (last modified by SergeyBiryukov)

Hello,

I'm opening this ticket to note discrepancies across Rosetta/Localized sites such as en-ca vs en-au.

  1. Page Slug for releases/download page should be consistent.

Currently en-ca uses /download whereas en-au uses /releases
*I'd suggest going with /releases across the board and making /download be a 301 redirect to /releases
Slack Chat - https://wordpress.slack.com/archives/C02RP50LK/p1498245708740997
*I left the page as is so #meta team can handle how they feel appropriate with redirects, etc. if needed.

  1. Page Title for releases/download page should be consistent.

On en-ca it's Canadian Releases and many others are just Releases.
Should that page be prefixed with the local?

  1. Menus across sites should be consistent, it was mentioned that they can be customized per-site but should they follow a standard?

Thanks

As @casiepa mentioned on slack the title and menu items aren't needed as they can be done on a per-site basis;

Minor note, I'd like to change my suggestion from /releases to /download as originally I was trying to match en-au/en-gb but looking at wordpress.org it's /download so the standard I guess is /download but AU/GB have modified to /releases.

Standard - https://wordpress.org/download/
Canadian - https://en-ca.wordpress.org/download/
Australian - https://en-au.wordpress.org/releases/
Great Britain - https://en-gb.wordpress.org/releases/

I believe @netweb handles AU but am unsure about GB.

#1665 may be related as part of a complete solution.

The standard out of the box page for .zips is /releases, not /download

As @thee17 noted in Slack, the change from /download to /release was specifically made by @thee17 for #en-ca

#en-au will be leaving the releases page as is and not changing to download, we link to it in various other places etc

I think as @thee17 points out #1665 might indeed be the best way forward here

Thanks @netweb
That's interesting so the standard for Rosetta differs from wordpress.org as on wp.org it's /download

Yes

https://wordpress.org/download/ is more of a landing page anyways...

There are 4 sub pages

  • Beta Releases
  • Nightly Builds
  • Release Archive
  • Source Code

Though the page that matches the Rosetta the most would be https://wordpress.org/download/release-archive/

@garrett-eclipse With all the updated chats, what's left over here that needs fixing? :)

Hi @obenland
No action was taken on this but basically, the ticket is to prompt a discussion on consistency between the localized sites.
There's some more discussion on consistency and forcing it here - #1201

I feel a community lead needs to take ownership and discuss with locale leads to come to a consensus and then implement across all locale sites.

In short nothing was done so everything is left, but no final decisions were made. I'm happy to discuss, but I'm no lead so shouldn't be the one to champion this.

Cheers

I'm not sure a trac ticket is the best place for a discussion like that to happen. That should probably be done on P2s and in Slack, what do you think?

Could we close this for now until we have concrete technical items to work on for this?
