Description
Actually there is a ticket for GlotPress for notifications (https://github.com/GlotPress/GlotPress-WP/issues/702) but is set on future so in the meantime maybe we can do a plugin specific on wp.org
There is https://meta.trac.wordpress.org/browser/sites/trunk/wordpress.org/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wporg-gp-slack-integrations/wporg-gp-slack-integrations.php?rev=2657 on the meta.
My idea was:
- Get the slack user configured on the profile of the reviewer
- Send a notification by a bot or slackbot privately to the user about new strings to review or translate
The reviewers are happy and we can move more people on slack to improve the participation in the international community.

Email notification was one of the idea shared for GlotPress itself.
My suggestion is to use Slack because it is used in the WordPress community a lot and is important that also the rest of the community that is not using it join there to improve the diversity and continue to make bigger and cool the WordPress community.
Also my ticket is for add notifications to the translation reviewer and not to an user so maybe they can be different discussions.
I think the idea of doing these notifications as a plugin specific to WP.org might be even better. For a lower barrier to entry, I think phase one could be to have something similar to the forums.
Example: on any project page at translate.wordpress.org, have a simple "Subscribe to this project" link so they get email notices when new strings are available.
