Description

I monitor the #slackhelp channel on Slack and try to direct users looking for a channel or support to the right channel or the forums. Evevitably, users end up in Slack looking for support.

I wonder if a change could be make to https://make.wordpress.org/chat/ such that we ask the user what part of the WordPress project they're interested in contributing to. One of the options in the list would be asking for help / receiving support. If this option were selected, we'd try to direct the user to the forums or IRC before seeing a link to create a Slack account.

I'm interested to hear others thoughts on this.

Hiding the signup behind an action interesting solution, I'm thinking two tabs:

I need help with WordPress | I want to Contribute to WordPress
Support is offered through the Support Forums, etc, etc.

I need help with WordPress | I want to Contribute to WordPress
WordPress uses Slack for real-time communication between contribution teams, etc, etc.

Just noting that as in #1209 some changes have been made to that landing page in the last two years, including adding a "I need help with WordPress" section.

  • Resolution set to fixed
  • Status changed from new to closed

I've shifted the I need help with WordPress! block to above the Joining the WordPress team on Slack block.

I'm going to mark this as fixed, if that doesn't do it nothing is probably going to.
