Description

When translating the Ultimate User plugin, I wanted to solve a waring ("Translation should not end on newline") by deleting the new line. By saving, I couldn't save because a error came up ("Identical current or waiting translation already exists").

The error message simply tells you that someone has already suggested exactly that same translation before. It's visible on the next line in your screenshot.
Most probably, whoever (omit01) suggested that first string noted the same warning, deleted that extra newline and submitted a second version. Yes - one user can submit several versions on how to translate the same string, which actually makes the validation hard sometimes.

So: I'll close this ticket here. Especially since the functionality you're commenting here is part of GlotPress and would be better made at https://github.com/GlotPress/GlotPress-WP/issues but the borderline between meta and GlotPress is winding and hard to follow. I've also put down my feet on the wrong side several times. The functionality that would have fixed your case was requested in https://github.com/GlotPress/GlotPress-WP/issues/889

Oh. I just realized that you're now working with your own pending translations. Great. Welcome to Polyglots! (Whenever any translation approved, it will automatically kick other translations of the same string into status "Old or rejected".)

If you would like to get in touch with other translators, feel free to join Slack via https://make.wordpress.org/chat/ and once there join the channel Polyglots.

And note: If you've submitted a translation that has an error, then it's better to click on "Reject" than leaving it in pending status.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
