Allow plugin authors to edit support thread titles

Description

As a plugin developer I take pride in giving adequate/relevant support in the plugin support forum.

The search functionality on wordpress.org plugin forum has improved and now shows threads from the support forum.

However, many titles of these resolved threads are often misleading or not relevant to the issue addressed in the thread, due in part to users not making much effort in titling their requests, therefore making it difficult to read through a list of threads of search results.

Stackoverflow forums allows title editing my forum moderators, allowing for more relevant titles to be associated with a question/answer/discussion.

Would it be possible for a plugin authors like myself to be given editing rights on the titles of questions posted by users on the plugin forum?

The forum moderators can already edit titles, as well as content. There's nothing in WordPress to separate title-editing from content-editing. So, yeah, kind of a big ask there.

Have you tried just asking the forum moderators to edit these specific cases for you?

no, I haven't, although I understand they are quite busy as is, and I find on average 2 of every 3 threads would best be re-titled...I am wondering if that wouldn't be too much to ask.

Question: how would I go about asking a moderator to change the title?

So I simply flag a thread and post a message the bottom of the thread to the attention of the moderator? (like this example)

true, but I thought I would put this out there and see if it gets any mileage.

Ideally a title field could be added to the reply form for author users, pre-populated with the existing title. A change in the title when a reply is submitted would automatically flag a moderator to approve the change.

Why is it being closed down?

The slack discussion was about doing this manually by asking the moderators.

This ticket is about implementing a programmatic solution.
