It's the spam, and the possibility for spam to even be let onto our systems that should be targeted and not change the behaviour of those profile pages to a negative UX experience for those that don't mean harm. The ways of going about it, that's where you differ in opinion. And frankly, I think you're approaching this with a sledgehammer mentality where a hammer in well aimed directions would suffice.
