Description
Hello,
Stemming from core#46986 (scheduled for 5.6) and then a #core-media Slack chat we discussed the need for a wp.org owned Vimeo account and video for use in unit tests.
The same goes for Youtube as I found several tests using random videos. Unlike Vimeo there is a WordPress.tv account we could possibly use, but would want to upload a video specific for testing.
Youtube Channel - https://www.youtube.com/WordPress/
For reference all existing Vimeo/Youtube tests that I found;
Six references of http://vimeo.com/190372437 in /tests/phpunit/tests/media.php
Eight references of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ in /tests/phpunit/tests/oembed/filterTitleAttributes.php
Two references of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQSNhk5ICTI in /tests/phpunit/tests/widgets/media-video-widget.php
Four references of http://www.youtube.com/v/nd_BdvG43rE in /tests/phpunit/tests/formatting/MakeClickable.php
One reference of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ in /tests/phpunit/tests/oembed/filterResult.php
One reference of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KiS8rZBeIO0 in /tests/phpunit/tests/customize/manager.php
I'm sharing a video of just the logo I think that can be used in both vimeo and youtube, and once uploaded I can field the core updates required.
Thank you

Instead of using WordPress test accounts, could we instead fall back onto using a video uploaded by the embed company instead?
For example, for Vimeo, anything from Vimeo Staff
https://vimeo.com/staff or the test video from https://player.vimeo.com/embed should be safe to use going forward. edit: The player embed page actually has a bunch of test videos with various states, such as not-embeddable, hosted by official vimeo test accounts, seems perfect for this use-case.
Having official WordPress accounts for every embed platform is not going to be viable from a management perspective IMHO, and having accounts everywhere with only a single W logo video doesn't lead to a super great experience when it ends up in search results.
Where WordPress does have a use for the service (Such as Youtube) using one of our uploads such as a release video does make sense though.

- Resolution set to worksforme
- Status changed from new to closed
Thanks @dd32 that's great information and works for me, I'll take this into that specific ticket and create a new one to apply consistent use for vimeo/youtube unit tests in core.

P.S. When I created this ticket it didn't ping to Slack, is the Trac>Slack setup for autoposting?

For reference here's the core ticket I made to get the other video URLs updated in core;
https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/51487
*It's patched and ready to go for 5.6.

It did, it just pinged the team for the component selected - WordPress.tv => #wptv :)
