#557 closed enhancement (maybelater)

Provide a mechanism to search for aliases of dynamic hooks

Description

Talked to Nacin and Jorbin in Portland about an idea make it possible to search the code reference for common aliases of dynamic hooks.

The idea would be to document common hook aliases in core docs, parse them, and make it possible to, say, search for 'publish_post', and return the reference for {status}_{post_type}.

At the WordCamp Seattle contributor day, we already started working on a spreadsheet of common aliases: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1QfHEPhI9j_Dts5XAxC_kX-LvdE0fxyHlnRFomOTFzQk/edit#gid=0

@DrewaPicture - are you still planning to implement this?

This is hard to achieve with PHP but very easy with ElasticSearch.

  • Resolution set to maybelater
  • Status changed from new to closed

Closing as maybelater until after the first phase of the Codex Migration project is complete. This requires a lot of work on the core and parser fronts to implement a custom tag and patch allthethings in core.
