Description

The Chromium open-source project has a "GoodFirstBug" tag that they use for wannabe contributors: http://www.chromium.org/getting-involved. I think this is a really good way of making things easier for new people to sort through bugs and to help them start contributing.

Would we be able to introduce a similar tagging method to the WordPress trac system? I know I'd be grateful for it. :)

+1. I think adding a good-first-bug tag to Trac would be great. :)

We have easy-fix tag for this exact purpose (attracting new contributors to tickets that don't have a patch yet). Introduced per jenmylo's request after the IRC discussion: part 1, part 2.

"good-first-bug" sounds great too, we could probably use it in lieu of "easy-fix" if that's the consensus.

I think good-first-bug is a better keyword. Probably a bit more standardized/recognized (if only because of Mozilla/Firefox/Bugzilla) and it's also more descriptive. good-first-bug is also a good call to action for new contributors, while easy-fix is basically asking it to be gobbled up by someone else. A first bug doesn't need to be "easy" — well-contained is probably most important.

We need to make sure to update the contributor handbook with the new keyword (and start using it!).

Making my list, and checking it twice. :) Will work on the update tonight.

Updated the handbook.
