The reasoning for this is simple, knowing when to close a topic, to not cause more harm than good, isn't something everyone has a good enough grasp of, and the end result for the users can often be a very negative one as a result. Based on this, the ability to lock a topic has been (rightfully so, in my opinion) restricted to moderators of the forums. But there is a case to be made for announcement posts made by authors, with new versions, special situations needing a sticky topic and similar, and having them sticky, but not close, such a topic is often counter productive. We should allow a support rep/author the ability to close a topic, but only if it's their own topic, **AND** there are no replies to the topic already. The second criteria is to avoid them closing a discussion, for example if they are unhappy with the way it is evolving, if there's a case to be made there, it is often much better to report a topic and have an experienced moderator have a look and help diffuse the situation.",enhancement, new, normal,,Support Forums,,,
