Description

Both wordpress-latest.zip and wordpress-latest.tar.gz nightly builds are mentioned in the handbook, but only the first link works.

Should we fix the second link, or remove it from the handbook?

I would love to see the tar.gz version of nightly added - I am trying to add a nightly option to wp-cli, so you could do
wp core download --version=nightly and since wp-cli gets tar.gz files for every other version, having a tar.gz version would make this a much simpler update.

Thanks!

FWIW, .tar.gz haven't been generated for nightly releases for quite a long time.
.tar.gz is only available for official release archives (Partial builds and all builds used by WordPress autoupdates are zip's)

luckily, .zip is only a few percentage points bigger than .tar.gz, and is even more widely supported.

Personally, I vote for removing the link.

Yeah, it looks like there hasn't been a tar.gz nightly created since August 2008.

I've removed it from the handbook https://make.wordpress.org/core/handbook/contribute/codebase/
