Description

Hi,

Support forum search is not working for our plugin CookieYes | GDPR Cookie Consent & Compliance Notice (CCPA Ready).

Please check here for a sample search query & the results.

We have changed the title of the plugin from GDPR Cookie Consent to CookieYes | GDPR Cookie Consent & Compliance Notice (CCPA Ready) on February 2021.

Note: It's been 8 months since we have changed the title but the support queries that come after are also not listed on the results.

Our plugin users are now not able to make use of the support forum so consider this as a high priority.

Thanks & Regards

  • Milestone Improved Search deleted
  • Resolution set to worksforme
  • Status changed from new to closed

This is not a problem within core, but with the search function of Google. The search function does not like the use of | in the name of a plugin. All other plugins that use | seem to have the same problem. The workaround is to change the name and use something like - instead.

You will have to wait two days until everything works again.

In 11287:

Support Forums: Make the forum search work for plugins that use pipe characters in their plugin name.

This may cause plugins to match other plugins with a similar plugin title prefix, but this is better than returning zero items.

This causes a plugin title such as 'Super Magical | Great Thing!' to simply search for all plugin threads for plugin titles starting with 'Super Magical'.

Props paapst.

Thanks for the hint @paapst!

Despite the search engine being Google, I figured we'd prefer for the search to 'just work' and not have to expect plugin authors to know that having such characters in their title will break the search.

Limiting the search in this case to being intext:"Plugin: CookieYes" seems reasonable to work around it. For some plugins, it might match multiple plugins.. but I'm not concerned about that, as if they have similar enough titles it's probably their own fault :)

Support Forums: Make the forum search work for plugins that use pipe characters in their plugin name. Take Two.

Missed including a file in [11287].
