Add priority to Favorited plugins when searching the "Add New" plugin interface via wp-admin/plugins

I've always found it odd that I search for "Gutenberg" - and even though I have it favorited on WordPress.org/plugins (and I'm logged into W.org) - it doesn't show up as my top plugin to install in the search results.

Look at the top bar on the second image there. Pick the favorites tab. Type in your name on wordpress.org there and it will show you your favorites.

Also, remember that your WordPress installation doesn't know who you are on WordPress.org. So until you tell it, there's no way for us to "prioritize your favorites" or anything of that sort for you.

What about the user flow:

• User goes to Plugins install screen
• if user is logged in to WP.org...
• Plugins install screen fetches favorite plugins to be ready when they type in the search bar?

You can be logged into wordpress.org all you want, but your WordPress installation is not. Your WordPress installation is its own site and it gets information about only itself from the cookies. It cannot access WordPress.org's cookies because it's a different site. There is no magic way to transfer that information.

The plugins API runs from the site not from your browser. It does not have information from your browser to include into that request unless you manually give it to it. And all we need is your username, your favorites are public information. They show up in your profile.

Maybe it could access through Jetpack and WP.com?

I'm just thinking about users who want to install Jetpack and do things, they can't even favorite a plugin and then search for it in the Plugins search bar...

this has to work some way...?

I mean what would it take to have your favorite plugins show up when you search for them? Feel like this isn't a stretch :)

It would need to know your wordpress.org username. And since if you use the favorites tab, you can type in a username and automatically get the listing of all your favorites, so it seems like having the search function return them preferentially too would be kind of pointless.
