Description
Some lame firewalls stop git:// traffic. It would be nice - especially for read only clones - to be able to access the WordPress git repositories via HTTP or HTTPS.
I'm not sure how painful this is or if it's better of waiting until a mirror like #633 is in place.

Better off waiting for #633, which I'll be tackling in the next few weeks. Our git mirror is currently git-daemon, which I think does not handle the http or https protocols. We'll likely move to something else in the future, but not simply for protocol support.
