Description (last modified by )
I would like to contribute translations for the WordPress Photo Directory, but I couldn’t find it listed under
Locales / Korean / Meta on translate.wordpress.org.
Is this project available for translation into Korean? If so, could you please let me know where I can find it or how to request its addition?

Right now It might not be the best moment, given the current shortage of meta contributors, but in the long term it might be a good idea to translate:
- Frontend strings: it is a small project
- Alt texts: those are context-less, easy to translate strings
- Tags and categories?: I have my doubts with these

Translating the name and description text for every single photo is, of course, not realistically possible.
However, I believe it is possible—and worthwhile—to localize the directory structure itself. For areas where manual translation isn’t feasible, using a translation API might be a practical solution.
This issue also applies to the Patterns directory. When a pattern is originally designed in English, translating it into Korean sometimes requires redesigning the layout itself to better fit the translated content and cultural context.
At present the Photo directory is not localised, nor is it available in non-english locales.
For example, https://ko.wordpress.org/photos/ does not exist.
I don't see any reason it shouldn't be localised, although I would ask how many people would likely translate the
Alternative Text
for every photo (But that being kept in English is probably OK when a translation isn't available)

I believe that full translation of every element isn’t necessary, but there are key interface elements in the Photo Directory where Korean localization would significantly improve the user experience. For example, I would prioritize translating:
Category, Color, Orientation, Sorts
Image info
EXIF data
Attribution
License/usage (linking to the official Korean version of CC0: https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/deed.ko)
Date published
Dimensions
In fact, units like "px" or other standard values don’t need to be translated. Also, since English and Korean concepts don’t always have a 1:1 mapping, there are times when keeping the original term actually helps with clarity.
However, from a user experience perspective, even bilingual users often find localized UI labels more approachable and welcoming. So I think it's worth considering partial localization focused on key interface labels.
