#8102 new enhancement

Left column too long on some pages

Description

The left column doesn't scroll enough on https://developer.wordpress.org/plugins/wordpress-org/plugin-assets/. I would assume it's on other pages as well.

  • Type changed from defect (bug) to enhancement

The two sidebar columns both scroll inside their containers - it looks cut off, but you can scroll inside it to see the rest of the content. This was by design so that we could have the sticky sidebar, but maybe it could be more obvious. Do you have any suggestions?

Ah, I see that now, but I didn't before. I would have had to move my mouse over that area, click, and then scroll. I'm not clever enough with CSS to know if this is possible, but could we make a visual scroll indicator at the bottom of the left col if it's in the condition of not being all the way scrolled?

What kind of visual scroll indicator would work for you? We can start there and then see what we can do with CSS.

I'm imagining a semi-transparent bar across the bottom, maybe 40px tall, with a down arrow in the center of it. Something like this one: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Arrow-down.svg

Optionally a click event on that bar to make it scroll.
