This could be improved by something like...

  • using <code> and "
  • mentioning commas.

Eg: 

The following contributors listed were ignored, as the WordPress.org user could not be found.
<code>"example usernames here", "exampleuser2"</code>.
The Contributors field should only contain WordPress.org usernames separated by commas.

I'm re-opening this, and modifying the title as such.
