Add a Volunteer profile badge for WordPress Campus Connect events

Description

The current WordPress Campus Connect documentation lists only Participant and Organizer profile badges.

However, volunteers also make an important contribution by supporting students, assisting facilitators, coordinating activities, managing registration, troubleshooting technical issues, and handling other event responsibilities. The WordPress Education Programs handbook also recognizes volunteers as part of the community support provided to students.

I propose either:

  • Adding a dedicated Campus Connect Volunteer profile badge; or
  • Clearly documenting that verified volunteers are eligible for the existing Participant badge.

Four more Campus Connect events are planned at colleges in Surat. Recognizing volunteers could encourage more community members to support these and other Campus Connect events.

Stakeholders

  • Campus Connect volunteers
  • Students
  • Organizers and facilitators
  • WordPress Education and Community teams
  • Local WordPress communities

Goals

Provide appropriate recognition for verified volunteers, improve volunteer engagement, and encourage more community members to support Campus Connect events.

Using the existing Participant badge would require less implementation, while a dedicated Volunteer badge would more clearly recognize the volunteer role.

Acceptance Criteria

  • An official badge pathway is defined for verified Campus Connect volunteers.
  • Volunteer eligibility and verification requirements are documented.
  • Organizers can submit volunteers’ WordPress.org usernames.
  • The appropriate badge appears on eligible volunteers’ profiles.
  • The Campus Connect badge handbook is updated with the process.
