Just noting that this is the $wgEnableCanonicalServerLink MediaWiki configuration.
Historical revisions of a page will have the canonical set to the currently published page, 404's will be set to the 404 url, query args are excluded unless it's an
index.php?...
request.Combined with the noindex requests elsewhere that'll probably cover most bases.
