Need a Quick Way to Copy Attribution Info

Description

No attribution is required for CC0 photos, but it would be nice to have an easy way to copy attribution info and credit the photographer with a link back to the individual photo listing. Maybe this could be something as simple as a button that says "Copy Attribution Info."

This is a good idea. Can you provide an example of a good copy pasta to provide for this purpose?

I had some discussions about this with @mdburnette and @topher1kenobe. I'm partial to something like:

Photo by Sarah Gooding on the WordPress Photo Directory.

Where photo contributor's display name is linked to their wp.org profile and "WordPress Photo Directory" is linked to the photo. Though maybe "Photo" should link to the photo and it should be:

Photo by Sarah Gooding on the WordPress Photo Directory.

Maybe we want to prefix it with "CC0-licensed photo by..." to tout the CC0 licensing?

Doesn't seem too overtly promotional, while still citing the original photo specifically, its author, and the Photo Directory itself as being a thing.

Whatever the exact text is, I envision a block below the photo (on single photo pages) that states something to the effect of "Though attribution is not required, it would be appreciated!" with a preview of the attribution text and a button to copy it to the clipboard.

I like Scott's second suggestion. I'm torn about the license language. I see the value, but without it it's more concise.

This advice might be helpful. I know we're using CC0, still, might as well be a good example:

https://doctorow.medium.com/a-bug-in-early-creative-commons-licenses-has-enabled-a-new-breed-of-superpredator-5f6360713299

the Creative Commons license has a pretty technical— if lightweight — set of administrative requirements that are easy to get wrong. Specifically, all CC licenses (save for the Public Domain dedication) require that users:
Name the creator (either as identified on the work, or as noted in instructions to downstream users)
Provide a URL for the work either as identified on the work, or as noted in instructions to downstream users)
Name the license
Provide a URL for the license
Note whether the work has been modified

The last one would always be no, so can probably skip that.

I like @coffee2code's idea of keeping the attribution simple and linking to the WordPress Photo Directory. Openverse images have kind of a nice tabbed interface for crediting the creator where you can copy the Rich Text, HTML, or Plain Text.
