Mercantile store categories needs pretty permalinks and canonical URLs

The Mercantile site currently lacks canonical URLs on category pages, which is causing crawling and indexing problems.

To address this, we should:

• Add a canonical URL tag on ​https://mercantile.wordpress.org/shop/
• Alter categories to use pretty permalinks (e.g., ​https://mercantile.wordpress.org/shop/?product_cat=notebooks becomes ​https://mercantile.wordpress.org/shop/category/notebooks/)
  • Disable compound filtering to simplify the above (​https://mercantile.wordpress.org/shop/?product_cat=stickers,women,pride,accessories)
  • Include the paginated states in canonical URL values, when paginated (e.g., ​https://mercantile.wordpress.org/shop/category/notebooks/page/2/)

Mercantile is "run by" Automattic on behalf of WordPress.org, I've passed this ticket onto the team. All profits are sent to the WordPress Foundation.

There isn't currently a public issue tracker for it, and the Meta team doesn't work on it.
