#8378 closed defect (bug) (fixed)

Theme search should prioritize exact theme name matches over description/content matches

Reported by: soyebsalar01 Owned by:

Description

When searching for "Extendable", the search results display themes such as "Ploto" before the actual "Extendable" theme because the word "extendable" appears in Ploto's description. Users typically expect an exact theme name match to rank higher than themes containing the keyword only in their descriptions.

Expected behavior

Exact theme name matches should appear before themes that only contain the search term in their descriptions.

Current behavior

Results are ranked based on content matches, causing themes with the keyword in their description to appear before the actual theme with that name.

This was fixed by disabling Jetpack search again, it was auto-enabled when the site was assigned a Jetpack Complete plan on June 9, 2026.
