Description

I see some web developers putting a WordPress Expert badge on their website. First of all, who distributes these badges? How are they earned? Are they real?

Hi there, and welcome to the WordPress.org ticketing system!

WordPress has no certification system, so this is something they've made up on their own, along with all the other certifications on that page. (you'll notice the Google partner is an image, and not the official partner badge which would show certifications when you hover over it as well).

As noted by the WordPress Foundation trademark policy;

[...] and they cannot use them in any way that suggests an affiliation with or endorsement by the WordPress Foundation or the WordPress open source project.

(This has been reported to the Foundation, and they will look into the use, I'm closing it as reported-upstream, as others more suitable to handling this have been notified, and as there is nothing more we can do in this ticket specifically).

I see many local developers using the "wordpress expert" badge with no link:
https://ad-ios.com/
https://www.fiverr.com/divyesh__gajjar/be-your-wordpress-expert
https://localpropeller.ca/logo-design-branding-questionnaire/
http://breakthroughdentalmarketing.com/partner-view/wordpress-expert/

And not sure why they are there, so they are just making up these badges, certifications??

Yes, they are all made up :)
