#880 closed enhancement (maybelater)

Reintroduce total theme count and downloads to header of landing page

Description

The original Themes Directory (and Plugin Directory as well) displayed two bits of information in the header of its landing page that haven't been carried over to the new Themes Directory yet:

  • A brief blurb that gave a little context/explanation of the directory.
  • A stats string indicating the overall count of available themes and the total number of downloads.

It would be nice to maintain the display of the stats in a similar fashion as done before, plus add a little bit of context for what visitors are looking at.

The re-themed Plugin Directory launching concurrently with the new Themes Directory will have such a display, so doing so for themes will provide some additional consistency between the two.

Attached is a screenshot of what the header message will look like for the new Plugin Directory.

The text as seen in the screenshot is "Plugins extend and expand the functionality of WordPress. 36,254 plugins with 856,012,519 total downloads are at your fingertips."

Great idea. Design could use a few more iterations — going to tag it.

+1 for total theme count. Right now it looks like there are only 15 themes in the repository (see the screenshot).

This hasn't gotten much traction after it was brought up initially. It looks like it wasn't missed too much?
What do you think of closing this one and maybe bring it up again during a future design iteration of the theme directory?

Given the length of time since this changed, I think I agree that this is probably best waiting for a future directory ui iteration.
