Description

Since previous opened ticket #912 (and his quick fixe -> congratulations), I observe each week the evolution of stats (here - picture joined) with maintenance/fixes version 2.16.x (around one a week).
Currently around 1000 per week (the peak w/o baseline of 80 per day).
So if v 2.16 is described as 20.6% of Active versions, why Active Installs is 1000+ and not 4,000+ or 5000+ ?
More accurate with previous estimations made with peaks of download per day since one year...
Thanks for your light,
M.

Active version vs active installs counting

  • Resolution set to invalid
  • Status changed from new to closed

All the numbers for the plugin xili-language (which it appears you're referring to) are lining up correctly as far as I can tell.

It has 1000~2000 Active installs, of which ~20% are on 2.16.
It's had ~100-200 downloads per day after the release.

Simple fact is that download numbers are not correlated with active installs, many people install a plugin, find it doesn't fit there need, and remove it. That happens hundreds of thousands of times a day with every plugin.

A plugin could have 10 million downloads, and only ten current active installs, it would just mean that the plugin either wasn't good, or has been replaced by something far better.

@dd32
Thanks for your return.
I do some tests again when version 2.17 was shipped during 5 days last week. (and observations/comparison with other plugins)
The total download was 318+314+293+233+212 = 1370 and v 2.17 percentage was at end 4.3% of active versions
To be pessimist, 5*130 = 650 are substracted (the noise basic downloads line) to analyze only the peak (triggered here by this new version when webmaster update).
This peak is quite the same during each updates.
So if 1370 - 650 = 720 represents 2.17 version and a percentage after the 5 days of 4.3%.... the total Active installs will be around 17900 ! far away from the 1000+ (1000 to 2000).
You conclude about the plugin quality but here, it is not sure that it is the only reason of this strange difference. (can the previous ticket issue 912 have influence ?)
(repartition between Active older versions and recent are similar to WordPress version of installed sites)
Thanks for your patience
M.
